FRISCO, Texas – For the fifth time this season, Nicholls’ Cassidy Barrios is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. All Southland weekly awards are presented by MidSouth Bank.The senior guard led her squad to a 1-1 week rallying from a 78-65 loss Wednesday to Lamar to defeat Southeastern Louisiana 73-66 on Saturday. Barrios shot 42.3-percent from the field and 90-percent from the free throw line, while recording her 14th double-double of the season while breaking a 32-year old Nicholls scoring record.Basketball Player of the Week – Cassidy Barrios, Nicholls – Sr. – Guard – Raceland, La.Barrios produced a historic week after becoming the Colonels’ all-time leading scorer. In Nicholls’ overtime victory against rival Southeastern Louisiana, Barrios surpassed Realia Davis’ record of 1,750 career points following a 23-point performance against the Lady Lions. She also became just the sixth player in Southland Conference history to convert 500 career free throws after an impressive 18-of-20 outing at the line for the week. In addition to her 23 points, Barrios posted game-highs against the Lady Lions in three other categories with 16 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, while committing no turnovers. Against Lamar, the senior registered 21 points and eight rebounds.
