BRISTOL, England (CMC): Jamaica international Garath McCleary scored his second goal of the season but first of the Championship, as Reading beat Bristol City 2-0 here Saturday. The 28-year-old netted one of two first half goals and set up the other to give the visitors their third win in four league outings and put them sixth in the table on 12 points. Unbeaten Brighton sit top of the standings with 20 points, three clear of Middlesbrough. Playing at Ashton Gate, Reading were ahead after just nine minutes when McCleary put through Nick Blackman for the 25-year-old striker to beat goalkeeper Frank Fielding with a clinical finish. The visitors then doubled their lead four minutes later when McCleary collected the ball about 12 yards outside the box and superbly blasted his volley into the back of the nets. Reading controlled the game at half-time and afterward, managed to keep the scoreline intact. Bristol had two penalty appeals waived away and Jamaica international defender Michael Hector also made a superb tackle late on to deny Ivorian Jonathan Kodjia a clear goal-scoring opportunity. McCleary started the season well, scoring against Portsmouth in a 2-1 victory in the Capital Cup. The England-born forward was a key part of the Jamaica squad which reached the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July before losing to Mexico.
